Interactive Maps
The maps listed below are fully interactive, meaning you can zoom and pan the map to the exact area you want to focus on. Many of these maps have layers you can enable for additional information. Some have navigation shortcuts to find the location you are looking for within the map.
A broadband Internet connection is highly recommended.

Base Map Resources
Core geographic layers form the "framework" for most mapping applications. Below are map viewers created by the public and private sectors.
A simplified viewer for the casual user who wants to view or generate a basic map.
* A screen resolution larger than 800x600 is highly recommended
* Working with Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and Firefox.
An interactive map viewer intended for mapping professionals who want to view the best available statewide base mapping layers. In the future, other high resolution layers which consistently align with the 1:4800-scale SAMB photography will be added to the viewer. These data layers include 3-meter DEMs (2006), road centerlines (2007), streams (2008), and municipal boundaries (2010).

West Virginia participates in The National Map program to build an integrated set of base layers for the entire Nation.

West Virginia Pre K - 12th Grade Schools in a Google Map Application integrates school coordinates, West Virginia 2003 2-Foot SAMB imagery, and West Virginia DRG WMS services.

Web-based application that integrates facilities inventory with maintenance, utilization, and space management, and West Virginia 2003 2-Foot SAMB imagery from MapWV.gov. There are five institutes included into this application:

Environmental Protection
Interactive maps of oil and gas wells, abandoned mines, toxic release inventory, and open dump cleanup and landfill closure assistance projects.

Flood Hazard
Online Flood Mapping Tool may be used by floodplain managers, insurance agents, developers, real estate agents, local planners and citizens attempting to make informed decisions about the degree of flood risk faced by particular pieces of property.
