About WV FoodLINK

WV FOODLINK is a project Food Justice Laboratory housed in the Department of Geology and Geography at West Virginia University. With the support of our community partners we have developed a resource hub and learning commons to support a people-centered, resilient food network in Appalachia.

Our work is motivated by a vision that all people must have access to safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food in sufficient quantity and quality to sustain a healthy life with human dignity. Today many West Virginians face critical challenges in meeting their basic nutritional needs. To meet their immediate food needs a large network made up of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other meal programs coordinate to provide short-term food resources and relief. WV FOODLINK serves as an information center, forum and interactive atlas for program directors, social workers, policy makers and WV residents.

WV FOODLINK is a product of our partnerships. Our current partners include Facing Hunger Food Bank, Mountaineer Food Bank, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, Sister’s of St. Joseph Charitable Fund, Appalachian Foodshed Project, WV Food and Farm Coalition, WV Farmer’s Market Association, West Virginia GIS Tech Center as well as county-level anti-hunger coalitions throughout the state of West Virginia.

WV FOODLINK is currently supported by grants from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and the Appalachia Foodshed Project. Seed funding for WV FOODLINK came from a Public Service Award from West Virginia University.
